Goal of this project

The goal of this project is my attempt to create a 3D, 3rd person action/shooter game. It is a plan to make a Fangame for that world famous Japanese sci-fi mecha franchise that starts with Gun...and Mobile... and in particular, the series within it with lots of seeds. You get the drift.

I have played various game titles from that franchise since young, but in recent years there's been a lack of new ones, especially ones that focus on capturing the unique feel of space/air combat like the shows. Rather, most titles are instead reskins of other stablished video game series and genres. The ones that truly strike me are few and far between.

I like games based of mecha franchises that tries its best to stay true to the source material when it comes to gameplay.

When flying mechs and robots in the shows appear in a game, but are being "bounded by Earth's gravity" into doing jumps and hops on the ground in actual gameplay, that is very unfortunately an immersion breaker to me in most cases.

So with all that said hopefully you start to get the picture. My goal is to create a fast paced, 3D shooting/action game that feels fun to play, while making a maximum effort to portray combat like that of the show.

Current Plans

The plan is to build a 3D Air/Space combat system that allows for maximum movement potential, and maximum amount of control on multiple firearms, weapon combinations, etc. Although ironically the current prototype only has 2 types of ranged weapons one 1 melee weapon.

Since one person's knowledge is very limited, which is why I decided to put out this barely functional prototype.

The plan is to collect feedback from this prototype for the combat system, and see if this concept is actually a good enough foundation to further develop into the game.

Life is complicated, so no promises about how far I can take this idea. Maybe this could get to a point that it actually feels fun to play.. or just get scrapped and delete in a couple of months.

But as for now I'll keep on trying. But regardless I'll still keep dreaming about my dream mech game, like I always do...

The current combat UI, all hand made and super low poly!... sorry

Feedback and Support

The more opinions about the combat, the controls, and suggests on the direction to take, the better.

If you feel like this idea is worth sharing to others, feel free to share it. Or if it simply inspired you to go find some good mech games, that's a win for me too.

If you're interested in helping with development,  you are also welcomed to come discuss. I'm pretty inexperienced in game development, so any help or just advice are much appreciated.

At the moment I only made a Reddit account for feedback purpose:

but I will probably make a couple more if needed.

So feel free to use the above contacts, or simply comment here. Comments, sharing, support, all feedback are appreciated! Thank you.

PS: About Controller support

Unity's general "Gamepad" controls should be on, so if you have a controller you can plug in, give it a try. I have made efforts on the UI to theoretically allow controllers to navigate the menus, but nothing is truly tested and bug-prove at this stage.
